Personality: When one considers the archetypal deal-making demon, a devious and malicious entity that will twist an agreement to benefit him first... well, that's the type of person that Alastor sees himself as and what sort of creature he revels openly in being. He relies on his power and his position of knowledge and authority to convince people to shake hands with him, that wicked combination of openly cruel but charming and willing to work with you...
The need to control is extremely, vitally important to him. Building a reputation of fear and terror to garner respect, maintaining charisma to be an ever-efficient salesman and grab those ever-important Deals that will make him even more untouchable, refusing anyone the right to grab or touch him whilst hypocritically grabbing and moving them himself... even his seeming ever-present smile is something he uses to confuse and mask his intentions and feelings to maintain the upper hand in any given situation. But like so many antisocial narcissists, Alastor's ego is brittle and cannot tolerate insult and disrespect, and he will use violence and intimidation to force people back into line and offering him deference. (There's a high likelihood his background of being a mixed race man from the 20s-30s played at least a factor in this.)
Despite his desperate need for control and his self perception being that of a 'demon from Hell' and a 'deal-maker', an Overlord with great power and control... he is not just those things. Much to the Radio Demon's chagrin, he does enjoy music, dance, company, and companionship... when he doesn't feel he has anything to lose, he even admits aloud that he often feels sentimental with those around him. A statement and sentiment that he aggressively denies later when he does almost lose his life protecting the Hotel - when he realizes that very nearly, he could have died, much less dying 'for his friends'. This event brought him into a stressed, panicked spiral where he desperately scrambled to regain his power and control - and he didn't stop showing that frenzied, frustrated energy until he finally had a plan.
The specifics of Alastor's motivations are unclear - he states that he seeks power to dominate and 'keep having his fun' torturing and killing others, that he enjoys seeing others suffer - but it is abundantly clear that the depths of Alastor's plotting and dishonesty as well as his penchant for keeping secrets very close to his chest means that there are deeper intentions and goals yet to be discovered. And there's a non zero chance that Alastor himself may not be fully self aware about them.
The Radio Demon is a man of several layers... someone who is clearly a sadist, but who also clearly keeps forming bonds as any other person does. Someone who has simple joys intermingled with machinations. And he is someone who wants to be respected as much as he wants to perform and amuse others, a radio jockey just as much as he is a serial killer. He's a massive pain in the ass and he likes to play the long game - a reputation that he'll undoubtedly gain on the road here with everyone else.
Powers/Abilities:
⛧Radio Signal; Alastor is known as the Radio Demon in part because he is able to use radio waves to communicate directly, able to play any number of clips or sounds or his own voice over the radio at will, connect to any tower or station, et cetera. He is able to change and control broadcasts.
⛧Twisted Anatomy; The thing about being dead is... well, you're dead! As a demon from his universe, Alastor still functions like a living creature, but he can twist his neck around with a sickening crack, he can receive vicious blows without succumbing to shock, and can twist himself back into 'shape'. There are a number of mild cosmetic details, such as his pupils turning to radio dials or his teeth flashing and glowing gold like an old time radio instead of opening when he speaks. This doesn't mean he can heal, can't be injured or can't be torn apart, just that trying to snap his neck may lead to underwhelming results.
⛧Let's make a Deal...; Able to supernaturally compel someone to follow the terms of an agreement made on a handshake. A transfer of power, an agreement to act, a blank check... anything Alastor and his client might agree to. (Mods feel free to add specific limitations to what Deals can be made in-game; I will have a whole post specifically for plotting OOCly with people in-game on how they want any Deal to go)
Inventory: A broken radio mic staff, a 'crown' made of dead hell-cockroaches, thread and needle, a few glass wipes for his monocle.
Game Plans: I fully intend for him to primarily be a nuisance with the radio! And I think it would actually be quite interesting if mods wanted to use his abilities therein to drop strange game hints, especially since Alastor is such a bastard that he'll never give up a token of info for free - he can easily be a fun little mechanism for the game plot because of his supernatural integration into radio waves. I also look forward to just having him be a nuisance in general to everyone around him.
Monster Choice:
⛧Yokai - Kitsune: A trickster, a powerful fiend, a manipulator... and a penchant for eating livers fits well enough! I admit - I am most excited about the kitsune because I am SUCH a nerd for kitsune mythology, love foxes, and think it'd be fun to break a bit further from Alastor's more 'canon' deer traits to really pull him in a direction different from what he's used to. He would be QUITE sour about the shift - he'd already been insulted and mad about his deer traits and would've preferred to be a fearsome predator, but a fox is not one that commands respect and fear the way he would desire.
⛧Undead - Draugr: This would be the closest aesthetically and power-wise to Alastor's canon kit and would be more about leaning even further into the cervine and skeletal traits. It'd add a mechanical benefit to his penchant for cannibalism, which he currently does as an intimidation tactic and a bizarre hellish lifestyle choice.
⛧Infernal - either: There are some interesting body shifts that could happen for Alastor whilst maintaining the dark demeanor of a demon, becoming even more iconic of humanity's idea of The Devil who makes Deals. The shift to a fiery and uncontrolled chaotic self could be interesting?I admit I was struggling to find an interesting third choice lol
Vehicle Choice: I'm picking an old radio broadcast truck! I think the trait I want is 'ACCESSIBLE', insofar as the truck can be used like a mobile radio tower and Alastor might want to try a few Tricks with it?
